Diamante Poetry

Diamante

A diamante is a special type of shape poem.  The seven lines call for specific parts of speech and form a general diamond shape.  The first line is a noun, the second line is two adjectives that describe the noun, the third line is three gerunds (“-ing” words) that describe the noun, the fourth line is four more words to describe the subject (with a shift after the first two if ending the poem with an antonym), the fifth line is three more gerunds that describe the ending noun, the sixth line is two more adjectives that describe the ending noun, and the seventh line is a noun that is either a synonym or an antonym of the first line.
